 Lower Back Pain, Sciatica etc.

What causes back pain?

There are many conditions that can cause back pain. Some of these are congenital,
such as scoliosis. Most causes of back pain, however, result from injury or trauma.
Common causes of back pain include:

Muscle Strain   Muscle Spasm      Bulging or Herniated Disc
Degenerative Disc Disease          Spinal Stenosis
Sciatica or Pinched Nerve Sciatica      Sacroiliac Joint Inflammation

Muscle strains usually happen when a muscle is stretched beyond its limit, tearing the muscle fibers. They usually occur near the point where the muscle joins the tough, fibrous connective tissue of the tendon. A similar injury occurs if there is a direct blow to the muscle.

Once a muscle strain occurs, the back muscles are vulnerable to re-injury, so it’s important
to let the muscles heal properly and to follow preventive program.

The TF's Waist Belt or Waist Band worn on a regular basis for several weeks, will
help to heal the muscle tissues and rejuvenate the fibers. We recommend using the
non toxic, non addictive Far Infrared garments when you have strained your
back muscles and to prevent further injuries in the future.

Bulging or Herniated Disc

The spine is made up of a series of connected bones called "vertebrae". The disc is a combination of strong connective tissues (disc) which hold one vertebra to the next, and acts as a cushion between the vertebrae. The disc is made of a tough outer layer called the "annulus fibrosus" and a gel-like center called the "nucleus pulposus."

As you get older, the center of the disc may start to lose water content, making the disc less effective as a cushion. This may cause a displacement of the disc’s center (called a herniated or ruptured disc) through a crack in the outer layer. Most disc herniations occur in the bottom two discs of the lumbar spine, at and just below the waist.

TF's Waist Belt is very helpful in relieving the pain by increasing the circulation to the area, flushing out the toxins and relaxing the muscles on the outside and INSIDE
of the pelvis. The Far Infrared rays emitted from the T F bio ceramic
impregnated smart material can penetrated deep into the tissues.

Position the Waist Belt around your hip to support the the sacral area. With the Velcro adjustable closure you can increase the pressure of the belt to offer support as well.

Lower Back Pain affects 80% of the population at some time in their life.

Low back pain is one of the most costly and disabling of all neuromusculoskeletal
conditions and one of the highest work related injured according to
workers compensation claims.

Degenerative Disc Disease

The gradual deterioration of the disc between the vertebrae is referred to as degenerative
disc disease (spondylosis). Natural degeneration of the discs occur as the water and
protein content of the body's cartilage changes.

Thinner and more fragile the discs are subject to other related problems like:
 hernias and osteoarthritis.

Degeneration of the disc can cause local pain in the affected area. Any level of the spine
can be affected by disc degeneration. When disc degeneration affects the spine
of the neck, it is referred to as cervical disc disease.

When the mid-back is affected, the condition is referred to as thoracic disc disease. Disc degeneration that affects the lumbar spine is referred to as lumbago. Lumbago causes
pain localized to the low back and is common in older persons.

The pain from degenerative disc or joint disease of the spine can be treated with TF's Far Infrared Waist Band, Belt and Therapy Sheet. We recommend using TF garments and product
while at rest and during your rehabilitative exercises to relieve pain,
 muscle spasm, and inflammation.

Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis involves a narrowing of the spinal canal and lateral recesses through
which the nerve roots and blood vessels pass.

The narrowing of this canal puts pressure on the nerve roots (cauda equina)
causing various symptoms in the lower half of the body.

Leg pain
Numbness and tingling of feet and toes
Both legs may be involved
Leg muscle weakness
Burning or pain in the buttocks, especially after walking
Flexion of spine, such as the fetal position, tends to relieve discomfort.
Extension of the spine is uncomfortable.
In severe cases, loss of bladder and bowel control may be seen.
Usually caused by a shrinking and drying up of the disk spaces, this degenerative condition occurs in older adults. Simple wear and tear from daily living.

Sciatica or Pinched Nerve Sciatica

The sciatic nerve is a large nerve that travels from your lower back and down the back of your leg. Information from your brain travels along this nerve to muscles in your leg and foot making it possible for those muscles to work and feel.

Sciatica is when the sciatic nerve is irritated - sometimes from a herniated disc This causes pain, tingling, or numbness down its pathway and to the areas it supplies. The usual sciatica pain is in your low back, your buttock, and down the back of your thigh. Pain can vary from a slightly annoying to an excruciating pain that stops you from walking and doing your normal activities.

Sciatica affects about 1-2% of all people, usually between the ages of 30 and 50.

Basic Anatomy of the Sacroiliac Joint: The Sacroiliac joint connects the bottom of your spine with your pelvis. This joint has a very small range of motion but is crucial to transferring the weight of your upper body to your legs.

Abnormal movement in the sacroiliac joint generates excruciating localized pain around the dimples in the upper buttocks and possibly referred pain - SI syndrome. With SI syndrome, the irritation and inflammation also affect nerves that provide sensation to other areas, like the groin, hips, and front of the thigh areas.

Symptoms of Sacroiliac (SI) Syndrome. You will feel pain when:

Straightening up from a stooped position
Lifting an object
Twisting your body
Leaning forward
Bending backward
Sitting for long periods of time
